This painting became a portal for the spirit of wind depicted within it. The visual form of the entity came to me during a state of active meditation. I did not plan a precise image in advance; instead, I attuned myself through music to the state necessary for the process and began working with paint. As the image developed, I started to recognize the emergence of an entity connected to the element of air. I named it the Spirit of the Wind.
The center of the creature’s chest was sensed by me as a vortex into the Abyss — an umbilical connection to a deeper layer of reality. A flat image on canvas was insufficient to convey what needed to be transmitted, so I used live flame to rupture the plane of the canvas and create an opening into the Abyss — the layer of reality from which the depicted spirit draws its energy. This is how the painting with a hole burned through its very center came into being.
